A Special Summer Treat

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

Nothing says summer like a basket full of juicy blackberries. I wish I could say that I picked all those big round, delicious looking blackberries, but we bought them at our local farmer's market.

With all these blackberries just begging to be eaten, I knew I had to make something special with them. I decided to make blackberry jam!

Other than making apple butter I've never made homemade jam before. I found an easy recipe to follow and you can find the recipe here: Blackberry Jam Recipe

I know that jams and jellies are always full of too much sugar than I'd like, so I substituted half of the sugar with honey. It still tasted very sweet!

Included in all the fresh fruits we picked at the farmer's were some ripe peaches. They smelled amazing!  You know what sounded like the perfect treat for a busy day? Peach and Blackberry Cobbler. Yummy!

I saved one small basket of blackberries and picked out two of the juiciest peaches. Here is the recipe I used: Blackberry Peach Cobbler Recipe.

Once I chopped up the peaches and added the blackberries it looked so pretty I just had to take a picture.

It wasn't long before the kitchen smelled heavenly...

Now you can't have cobbler without ice cream. Dairy-free ice cream is becoming more and more popular and we found one that actually tasted so creamy and perfect. It was called "So Delicious" vanilla ice cream made from cashew milk.

Well, I don't have to tell you how delicious it tasted - just by this picture you can see how scrumptious this treat was. It was a huge hit with my family and I'm planning on making it again soon.

What's your favorite homemade dessert? Have you ever made your own jam or jelly?

  1. Sydney, I love that you are not afraid to try something new. This all look super delicious! I have never tried the cashew ice cream, so that will be on my next shopping list! We use to make blackberry jam at our old house and it was so wonderful know exactly what was in that jar and that we grew the berries. One of my newest favorite desserts is a paleo recipe for coconut cream pie. http://livinghealthywithchocolate.com/desserts/paleo-coconut-cream-pie-1203/
